Immortality: The Deception
About
About The Book
A woman, a Professor of Anthropology, and a member of a prominent Mexican family from Mexico City, has just been found in her home, murdered. Or is it someone else? The body found in her bed was a desiccated corpse, organs and body completely died to dust, even bones decaying rapidly. The police and coroners staff at first think it’s a mummy, but when the head of the Anthropology Department shows up to have a look, she informs the police that the historic Maya did not mummify bodies. Another explanation is sought, but none is found.
However, not everyone is unaware of other explanations, just not any that are scientific; one explanation comes from the Church, one that is not well received, but is nonetheless accurate. The Church, using its long institutional memory, sets in motion the people of Merida to investigate and track down who did this crime and why.
The Bishop and Cardinal of Merida have seen this before; it is the Francos, but why would they reveal themselves in this way? They have lived among the human population without incident, as they have for over five hundred years. Why would they break the compact now?
A strange brew of investigators have come forth, and what they find results in the further investigation of the local people called the Francos.
What happened five hundred years ago that matters today? As the Francos organize, so do the people of Merida. A showdown is coming.
Who will win?
